Many
years ago, Princess Elizabeth, later to become Queen Elizabeth II, was
on an overseas trip. They came to a mountain and the princess, with a
few others, climbed the mountain, leaving the rest of the party at the
foot. While they were gone, word came to the camp that her father, the
King, had died. From then on, people said of her, "she went up the
mountain a princess and came down a queen."
Yesterday, the Belfast Telegraph carried the headline "A King is Born."
However, Elizabeth was born a princess, one day to become queen. The
new royal baby was "born to be king", but not "born a king."
Only one person in history was born a king, born with the right to rule.
That person stands as a unique figure in the history of the world, the
Lord Jesus Christ, the son of God.
It was said of Him, "Where is He that is born king of the Jews."
The One who was born King, chose for Himself a cross, so that we could
become part of His "royal" family. Now the cross is empty, the tomb is
empty, He is on the throne waiting the day when He will come back to
rule and be known as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
